Board No. 55: Nautical Knots

20 November 2009

Whew!! So sorry for the posting delays. As I hinted, I’ve been working on four “finalist” inspiration boards for Kate and Cormac’s August island wedding. I wanted to wait until I had all four ready to go before I debuted the first one so that you could see them all in quick succession, as I’ll be asking for your opinions after all four go live.

The overriding challenge was this: the wedding is on an island, so a certain amount of “nautical-ness” is not only almost impossible to avoid, but desired. However, the vibe we’re going for is really more upscale picnic/fun garden party. Keep in mind that the ceremony and reception will be in the afternoon.

Without further ado, our first option:

This is pretty much your classic red, white, and blue nautical board. Kate really likes the idea of navy, so that’s one of the dominant colors here. She also has decided on a smorgasbord of mini, upscale picnic food for the menu (hence the cheeseburgers). We also love the idea of rope boutonnieres and blueberry jam favors, and I’m rooting for red-and-white striped maids’ dresses (as I’ll be wearing one!). The pennants are an easy DIY and add a fun punch of color, while the getaway boat is pretty much perfect for the location, don’t you think?

Thoughts below, please!

Awesome! My color scheme is now going to be split – purples/blues @ ceremony and nautical navy stripe and deep reds @ the reception – how fun!

i LOVE this board! if i could have another wedding, i'd plan for a nautical themed one.
i picture all of the men wearing boat shoes, light brown slacks, and blue blazers…but maybe that's just the southern in me.

and another thought- i remember you mentioning that you and kate were looking at pinwheels. small red, white, and blue pinwheels might be cute for boutonnieres…or maybe they could be decor among the trees at West Shore…it would definitely go along with the theme and there are sufficient red, white, and blue swags for the casino and the wharf…

oh, the food ideas i have for an island wedding.
let me know if you want to talk food and i'm THERE!

Amber: I love the idea of transitioning the color scheme from ceremony to reception! Those both sound awesome. I can't wait to hear more!

Meghan: Love the slacks and blue blazers, and the pinwheel ideas! Wouldn't it be so cute to have guests wave them at the end of the ceremony?

Chelsey: Oh just wait! The last board in this series is going to be navy and yellow, very much inspired by your wedding (which we LOVED by the way). I'm actually the same Emily from Southern Weddings, so I've had a sneak peek at your photos!
