House Tour 2015: Downstairs

30 September 2015

We’ve been in our home for about two and a half years now. Decorating progress, as ever, has been slow and steady. Sometimes slower than we would like, due to the budget and my tendency to overthink home purchasing decisions (there is NOTHING that I overthink more than home purchasing decisions). However, sharing these yearly-ish tours helps me see that there IS progress being made, that our home is inching closer and closer to the vision we have for it, and that we have much for which to be grateful. I hope you enjoy this peek into a home in progress!

All photos are by the lovely Anna Routh, first shared in our home tour on Southern Weddings, except the obviously worse-quality ones, which were taken by me :)

Here’s a good look at the true color of our red front door!

I am SO excited to say that since these photos were taken we’ve purchased new dining room chairs!! The ones here, the same ones we’ve had since starting out, were free hand-me-downs, and though they’ve served us well, I didn’t love their color, they had some glitter and fluff stuck to them from their previous owners, and there were only four of them. It took me so long to figure out what we wanted, but I’m happy to report I’m very pleased with our decision. Will share more soon!

I shared my plan for re-working our big wall of art last year, and here’s the final result! The four photos are ones we took on our last four big vacations.

For more photos and more sourcing information, check out last year’s tour! You can also see a few “before” photos here. And if you have any questions about sources or paint colors that I haven’t already answered, just leave a comment — I’m more than happy to help.

Back with the upstairs soon!

I love it! It looks so open, airy and cozy all at the same time. Great job!

Oh also, where did you end up getting those large white matted frames from? I love them and I think they would look great in my office/spare room. :)

Looks so great, you two!

Love the color in the master bath!! It looks like on last year’s you were debating a new color. Did you go with “sea salt?” Love it!! We are about to paint a few rooms/baths and I’m having a hard time deciding between a few greys and calming blue/greens…. Love what you chose!!!

So, so beautiful – and it seems like the perfect representation of the two of you! I have been on a major hunt myself and have to ask… where is the large plant from in your living room?!

Hi Emily! Your home is lovely! Can I ask where you got your watercolor family crest done? I looked at last year’s post but couldn’t find it sourced. Thank you!

Everything looks so great!!! I love how it’s all coming together.

May I ask where you had the family crest designed? That’s exactly the kind of thing I’m picturing for our wedding stationery!

@Emily I have her bookmarked on Etsy!!!!!! That is so funny! Now I feel like I have a great reference :)

The wedding isn’t until spring 2017, so I have some serious lead time. I saw she has a new little one, but hopefully she opens up some availability in the next 6 months or so.

@Ellie Yes! I also just discovered and fell in love with Gina Langford (https://instagram.com/gina.langford/), so she might be someone to look into, as well!

Love your home! So many sweet details, which are of course what I would love to know about! Where is the “give us this day our daily bread” print from? The cake stand that holds your towels? And did you just paint the “you are loved” above the light switch?

@Laura Happy to answer!! The daily bread print was purchased from Etsy many years ago – I THINK from a shop called Persimmon Prints, but I don’t know if they are in business anymore. The cake stand is from Minted. And the “you are loved” is a decal, made by Shanna Murray! http://shannamurray.bigcartel.com/

Hi Emily! LOVE your house–it’s adorable. Question about your barstools. My husband and I have been on the hunt for the past few weeks for new barstools (the ones we currently have are flimsy, like to pop apart, and with a baby on the way, not safe). We have been eyeing yours at Target, but are worried about the durability, as the reviews are pretty mixed. How do you like them? Is the fabric pretty easy to keep clean? And most importantly, how have they done with your cats? Our fur baby is very intrigued by fabric and while we don’t think he will do any scratching, it’s something we like to keep in mind. Sorry for the overload of questions!
